The Elyria City Health District offers programs to promote the health and safety of children and their families. Nurses provide services in the home through ongoing supportive programs.
These programs provide information and assistance to parents about the growth and development of young children, and to act as an advocate for families with children with special health care needs.
ECHD also provides services by a dentist and dental hygenist to provide dental sealants to eligible children through our School Dental Sealant Program.
Parenting Tip of the Week
IS PLAY IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN? According to a recent American Academy of Pediatrics Report the answer is YES!
Play helps the development of physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. Despite the benefits derived from play for both children and parents, time for free play has been markedly reduced for some children. There are a variety of factors that have reduced play, including a hurried lifestyle, changes in family structure, and increased attention to academics and enrichment activities at the expense of recess or free child-centered play.
